Coffee Machine Buying Guide for Lebanon: Drip, Capsule, Espresso or Bean-to-Cup

Quick answer: if you drink filter coffee or brew for the whole family, a drip coffee maker from $33 to $149 does the job. If you want one-touch café drinks with no mess, a capsule machine like the Dolce Gusto is the simplest choice. For real espresso on a budget, a pump espresso machine from $125 to $208 is the best value. If you want fresh beans ground for every cup with no skill needed, choose a bean-to-cup automatic machine, from $549.

Drip coffee makers: the easy family choice

A drip coffee maker heats water and runs it slowly through ground coffee in a paper or permanent filter. It is the easiest way to make several mugs at once, and the coffee stays warm on the hot plate. Good options include the Moulinex Subito (15 cups), the Braun PurEase and the De’Longhi Icona Vintage for a retro look.

Capsule machines: café drinks with one touch

A capsule machine makes a drink from a sealed pod in under a minute, and there is nothing to grind or clean. The Nescafé Dolce Gusto EDG226 by De’Longhi works at 15 bar and makes café-style drinks at home with no grinding or cleaning up. The trade-off is the cost per cup: capsules cost more than beans over time.

Pump espresso machines: real espresso on a budget

A pump espresso machine pushes hot water through finely ground coffee at high pressure, which gives a proper espresso with crema. You tamp the coffee and froth the milk yourself, so there is a small learning curve, but the results are excellent for the price.

Espresso with a built-in grinder: the barista route

The De’Longhi La Specialista range grinds fresh beans straight into the filter holder and has a steam wand for milk. You still control the shot, which is ideal if you enjoy making coffee as much as drinking it. The La Specialista Arte is the starting model, while the Arte Evo and the Maestro add cold brew.

Bean-to-cup automatic machines: fresh coffee, no skill needed

A bean-to-cup machine grinds, doses, brews and cleans itself. You choose a drink and press a button. Models with the LatteCrema system also froth milk automatically for cappuccino and latte.

Power and your generator subscription

Espresso and bean-to-cup machines draw their full power while the boiler heats, then much less while idle. At 220 V, amps are roughly the wattage divided by 220. The PrimaDonna Elite is rated at 1,450 W, which is about 6.6 A, and most espresso machines sit in a similar range. Drip coffee makers draw less: the 6-cup Moulinex Subito is rated at 600 W (about 2.7 A) and the 15-cup version at 1,000 W (about 4.5 A). On a 5 A subscription, a small drip coffee maker is the safe choice. On 10 A or more, any of our machines will run as long as the water heater is off.

Do you need a coffee grinder?

Bean-to-cup machines and the La Specialista range grind for you. For a pump espresso or drip machine, freshly ground beans make a clear difference. The De’Longhi Dedica grinder pairs well with the Dedica espresso machine.

Looking after your coffee machine

  • Descale regularly. Water in many parts of Lebanon is hard, and scale is the most common cause of slow or lukewarm coffee.
  • Empty the drip tray and the grounds container every day.
  • Rinse the milk frother or milk system after every use.
  • Use filtered or bottled water if your tap water is very hard.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best coffee machine for home use in Lebanon?

It depends on what you drink. For filter coffee, a drip coffee maker. For espresso on a budget, a pump espresso machine such as the De’Longhi Dedica. For fresh coffee with no effort, a bean-to-cup machine such as the De’Longhi Magnifica or Dinamica.

Is a bean-to-cup machine worth it?

If you drink two or more coffees a day, yes. Beans cost less per cup than capsules, the coffee is ground fresh every time, and the machine does all the work.

Capsule or espresso machine?

A capsule machine is faster and cleaner, but every cup costs more. An espresso machine takes a little practice and gives better coffee at a lower cost per cup.

Can I make Turkish or Lebanese coffee with these machines?

No. Lebanese coffee is boiled with very finely ground coffee in a rakweh. These machines make filter coffee, espresso and milk drinks.

Do your coffee machines come with a warranty?

Yes. Every coffee machine from Hajjar Shop comes with a 1-year warranty, and our team in Zahle helps with after-sales service.
