Blender and Food Processor Buying Guide for Lebanon: Hand, Jug, Chopper or Processor?

Blender and Food Processor Buying Guide for Lebanon: Hand, Jug, Chopper or Processor?

Quick answer: for soups, purées and baby food, a hand blender is the most useful single machine, from $32. For smoothies, juices and crushed ice, choose a jug blender, from $35. For parsley, onions and garlic, a chopper saves the most time, from $33. If you cook for a big family and slice, grate and knead every week, a food processor (from $75) or a kitchen machine (from $150) does the heavy work.

Hand blenders: the one most kitchens use daily

A hand blender goes straight into the pot, so lentil soup or a purée is smooth without moving it to a jug. Models with a chopper bowl also handle garlic and parsley, and a whisk attachment whips cream and egg whites.

Jug blenders: smoothies, juices and ice

A jug blender pulls food down onto the blades, so drinks come out smoother than with a hand blender. Look at the jar: glass does not scratch or hold smells, plastic is lighter and safer around children. For crushed ice and frozen fruit, check that the product page mentions ice crushing, and go for 800 W or more.

Choppers: tabbouleh without the knife work

A chopper is the fastest way through a bunch of parsley, a pile of onions or a head of garlic. Pulse in short bursts so the parsley stays chopped and does not turn to paste.

See all choppers, and meat mincers if you make kibbeh at home.

Food processors: slicing, grating and big batches

A food processor does what a chopper does and much more: discs slice cucumbers, grate carrots and cheese, and a dough blade mixes pastry. Bowl size is the main choice. Around 2 litres suits most families, 3 litres or more suits big Sunday cooking.

Kitchen machines: dough, cakes and whipping

If you bake bread, ka’ak, maamoul or cakes often, a stand mixer kneads and whips while you do something else. Bowl size tells you how much dough it takes in one go.

For lighter jobs, a hand mixer from $25 whips cream and cake batter. See all kitchen machines.

Power and your generator subscription

Blenders and processors run for short bursts, so they are easier on a generator subscription than an oven or a kettle. At 220 V, amps are roughly the wattage divided by 220.

PowerApproximate drawTypical machine
450 Wabout 2 AEntry hand blender
800 Wabout 3.6 AFamily jug blender or food processor
1,000 Wabout 4.5 APremium hand blender, chopper, kitchen machine
1,400 to 1,600 Wabout 6.4 to 7.3 AHigh-speed blender, large kitchen machine

On a 5 A subscription, everything up to about 1,000 W runs comfortably on its own. Switch off the water heater before using a high-speed blender.

Looking after your blender and processor

  • Fill the jug halfway with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid, then run it for 20 seconds. That cleans most of the blade.
  • Let hot soup cool a little before blending it in a jug, and never fill above the maximum line.
  • Never put the motor unit in water. Wipe it with a damp cloth.
  • Store blades and discs in their box or holder, since they stay sharp for years.

Frequently asked questions

Which blender is best for hummus?

A food processor or a strong hand blender gives the smoothest hummus. The Braun MultiQuick 3 Hummus edition is set up for it, and any processor of 800 W or more works well.

Hand blender or food processor?

A hand blender is for blending and puréeing, mostly in the pot. A food processor also slices, grates and kneads. Many kitchens have a hand blender for daily use and a processor for big cooking days.

Can a blender crush ice?

Most jug blenders of 800 W and above crush ice, and high-speed blenders handle frozen fruit with ease. Check the product page for ice crushing before you buy.

What is the difference between a chopper and a food processor?

A chopper has one blade and a small bowl for chopping. A food processor has a bigger bowl plus discs for slicing and grating and a blade for dough.

Do your blenders come with a warranty?

Yes. All products from Hajjar Shop come with a 1-year warranty, and our team in Zahle helps with after-sales service and spare parts.
