Capacity. 160 to 180 kg suits most adults. Choose 200 kg for extra margin.

Screen. A large, backlit or high-contrast display is easier to read in the morning and for older family members.

• Soehnle Shape Sense Control 200: body fat, water and muscle, from $40.
• Soehnle Shape Sense Connect Lite: connects to a phone app to keep your history.

Body analysis scales are not suitable for people with a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, or during pregnancy. Check the product manual.

Kitchen scales

Capacity and steps. 5 kg in 1 g steps suits everyday cooking and baking. Go for 10 to 20 kg if you weigh large amounts of flour, meat for kibbeh or fruit for jam.

Tare button. Sets the scale to zero with a bowl on top, so you can add ingredients one after the other in the same bowl.

Flat or bowl. A flat platform takes any bowl and is easy to store. Some scales come with their own bowl or a measuring spoon for spices and baking powder.

• Soehnle Page Compact 300: a slim 5 kg scale, also in marble and slate finishes.

Getting an accurate reading

• Place a bathroom scale on a hard, flat floor, never on a rug or carpet.
• If you move the scale, step on and off once so it resets before you weigh yourself.
• Replace the batteries when the display dims or readings jump; weak batteries are the most common cause of wrong readings.
• Keep kitchen scales away from the hob and do not put them in water.

Frequently asked questions

Are digital scales more accurate than mechanical ones?

Usually yes. Digital scales show smaller steps and are easier to read. Mechanical scales have the advantage of never needing batteries.

How accurate are body fat scales?

They give an estimate rather than a medical measurement. They are most useful for seeing whether your body fat is going up or down over time.

What size kitchen scale do I need?

A 5 kg scale with 1 g steps covers most recipes. Choose 10 kg or more for large batches of dough, meat or jam.

Do your scales come with a warranty?

Yes. All products from Hajjar Shop come with a 1-year warranty, and our team in Zahle helps with after-sales service.
